THE SEQUEL

Sensational Seas Two is in production! Scheduled for release in March 2010, the DVD is another exciting collaboration between filmmakers, photographers and multi-media artists who have donated their work for the benefit of ocean-related non-profit organizations.

We are looking for unique video from the marine world, of fish and creatures that are very rare or are behaving in a very unusual way or engaged in a rarely observed behavior. Your video should tell a story: Was this a once-in-a-lifetime encounter? Were you simply in the right place at the right time? Our contributors are at the forefront of observation and documentation beneath the sea, and so we are poised to show our audience what is most precious and exciting about the ocean realm: so give us your freshest, most exhilarating, most enduring images.

The use of your submission is considered a donation to the project. Previously used material is welcome and you retain the copyright.  Everything from footage, editing, design and promotion is being donated to the production. The proceeds of the sale of the Sensational Seas Two DVD go directly to benefit three organizations: REEF, the Reef Environmental Education Foundation, Ocean Pals Foundation and a yet-to-be named organization in the Indo-Pacific. All contributors whose work is accepted for use in Sensational Seas Two will receive twelve complimentary copies of the DVD.

Guidelines for Submissions:

Contents:

  • Your piece should be no longer than 3 minutes in length.

  • We prefer edited footage. We may ask you for some slight modifications if necessary to fit your piece in with the rest of the production. If you have footage that you're unable to edit and you think it might be of interest, please contact us for possible editing help.

  • If the piece has titles and credits, they must be removable to fit the piece into flow of the production. This is particularly true of superimposed titles and credits over main footage. The production editor will provide titles and credits for each piece.

  • If your piece is narrated, the narration must be removable so our own narrator can read for your piece from a script that you provide.

  • If your piece uses music, you must be able to obtain clearance for its use in the production.

  • If your piece doesn't have music, we will most likely add it in the final production.

Rights:

  • You must own the rights to all footage or provide clearance for its use in the production.

  • You must provide clearance for any music you use in the production.

  • Once a piece is accepted, we will ask you to sign a license agreement allowing us to use your material in Sensational Seas Two, this web site, and all related promotional materials.

Formats:

  • The video format of the final production will be a standard NTSC DVD in wide-screen aspect ratio. There's a possibility that the production may also be released on a Blu-ray high-definition disc in wide-screen aspect ratio. Final frame rate will be 29.97 frames per second.

  • To look their best, submitted pieces should be in wide-screen aspect ratio (16:9) and high resolution (720p, 1080i, or 1080p). We also encourage submissions in other formats, though -- great footage is great footage whether it's in standard definition or high definition, wide-screen or standard aspect ratio. If in doubt about your format, please contact us at the email address at the bottom of the page.

  • A submitted piece need not be in its original or final format, but in a more convenient format for transmission and viewing by the producers. We can accept piece submissions in these formats:

    • MiniDV cassette in HDV format of 1080i, using either 29.97 fps or 25 fps.

    • A data file in QuickTime, Windows Media, Flash, AVI, XDCAM (MPEG4), DVCproHD, MPEG2, or ProRes formats.

    • Standard-resolution DVD in NTSC or PAL formats.

    • MiniDV cassette in standard-definition NTSC format.

Additional Materials:
We'll need some materials in addition to your video submission to help us know you and your piece better:

  • Your photo in one of the following formats:

    • Digital JPEG or TIFF file 600 x 900 pixels in size or larger

    • 33mm slide

    • High quality, scan-able photo at least 2" by 3" in size.

  • Your Biographical Material: Tell us about yourself in 100 to 200 words.

  • Your Story: Tell us about your video, in 100 to 200 words. Where and when was it shot? Why is it interesting?  How did you feel -- were you excited? Frightened? Surprised?

Submissions:
You can submit pieces physically via postal service or electronically via the Internet.

To submit via standard mail, you can include printouts of your photo, background, and story, or you can include them as files (if they fit) on your video's delivery medium. The media we can accept include:

  • A thumb drive

Please send all materials at one time, in one package to: New World Publications, 1861 Cornell Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32207 USA. We'll return any hardware device at our expense as soon as possible. We'll keep DVDs and miniDV tapes unless you provide return postage.
